Banana House is a boutique hotel in Shela, Lamu Island. It has all the charms of a quietly elegant private home with 14 rooms spread over three houses in a magnificent tropical garden with a swimming pool. Our guests experience true well-being the minute they step through the door. Banana House is peaceful and inviting with organic food, comfortable rooms and plenty of fresh air.

Every floor of our houses has its own dining and seating area with comfortable day beds where we can serve your clients lunch or dinner. We can also set up private tables for these same meals in the garden or on the rooftop.

Our community involvement, yoga, spa and the love that the founders, Monika and Banana, have put into the house make Banana House unique.

Cancellation policy
Guests can cancel for free until 30 days prior to their arrival. For bookings made during the high season, the free cancellation period is 60 days prior to arrival. Cancellation fees — Normal Season: - 29–15 days before arrival: 20% - 14–7 days before arrival: 50% - 6–1 day before arrival: 100% Cancellation fees — High / Festive Season: - 60–30 days before arrival: 50% - 29–15 days before arrival: 80% - 14–1 day before arrival: 100% No-show guests are charged the full cost of their reservation. Reservations are confirmed once we receive a deposit or full payment.
Child policy
Children under 2 years of age stay for free. Baby cots can be provided upon request. Guardians are responsible for the safety of children while on the premises; Banana House is not liable for their safety.
House rules
Check-in: 12:00 noon Check-out: 10:00 Hotel quiet hours begin at 10:00 pm. Noise levels should be at an acceptable level as judged by our other guests and management. Our cancellation policy may apply to date changes that fall on fully booked periods. Pets are not allowed.
Payment policy
Cards accepted at the premises: Mastercard, Visa, American Express. Card payments at the property incur a 3.5% surcharge of the total. Currencies accepted: Kenya Shillings, Euro, US Dollars. The fixed hotel exchange rates for Kenyan shillings will apply to Euro and US Dollar payments. Other acceptable payment methods: cash, bank transfer, M-PESA. All charges and costs involving transfer of payments are the responsibility of the travel agent. Banana House reserves the right to adjust the rates presented in this document.
