Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to visit Kenya, and can I apply online before I travel?

Visitors can apply for a Kenya eVisa online through the eCitizen portal before departure. The process is straightforward, costs USD 50 for a single entry, and is typically approved within three to five business days. We recommend applying at least two weeks before you travel and our team is happy to guide you through the process.

Is it safe to travel to Kenya and East Africa right now, and what areas should I be aware of?

Kenya is a well-established international destination visited by millions of travellers every year. The major safari regions including the Masai Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo, as well as the coastal areas around Diani and Watamu, are considered safe and are frequented by tourists year-round. We design all our itineraries around established, well-monitored routes and work exclusively with reputable partners to ensure your comfort and security throughout.

What is the best time of year to visit Kenya for the wildebeest migration and Big Five safaris?

The Great Wildebeest Migration river crossings in the Masai Mara peak between July and October, making this the most sought-after safari season. For Big Five game viewing, the dry seasons from January to March and June to October offer excellent wildlife visibility. The green season from November to May brings fewer crowds, lower rates and lush landscapes, making it ideal for travellers seeking a quieter, more affordable experience.

How do I pay for tours and services in Kenya, and what currency should I carry?

The US Dollar is the standard currency for tourism services across Kenya and East Africa. Our packages are priced in both USD and KES, and we accept international card payments at booking. Within Kenya, major cards work at most Nairobi hotels and upmarket lodges, but carrying USD cash in smaller denominations is advisable for remote safari areas, tipping, local markets and optional excursions where card payment may not be available. You can also register Mpesa sim card to use for mobile merchants or exchange to KSH

Can I combine Kenya with Tanzania, Uganda or Rwanda in one trip, and how does cross-border travel work?

Absolutely, and many of our clients do exactly this. Kenya pairs beautifully with Tanzania for the full Serengeti-Masai Mara migration circuit, Uganda and Rwanda for gorilla trekking, or all four countries in one grand East Africa journey. The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda under a single fee, offering excellent value. We handle all cross-border logistics, transfers and documentation so the experience is completely seamless for you.

What should I pack for a safari, and what is the dress code at coastal destinations like Diani or Zanzibar?

For safari, pack lightweight neutral-coloured clothing in khaki, olive or beige tones, a warm layer for early morning game drives, a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen and a quality insect repellent. At coastal destinations like Diani Beach or Zanzibar, light breathable clothing works well, but we recommend modest dress when visiting local towns or Swahili communities out of cultural respect. Comfortable walking shoes and a versatile daypack complete your essentials.

What is the difference between a group joining safari and a private safari?

A group joining safari places you in a shared vehicle with other travellers, making it a more affordable and social experience ideal for solo travellers or couples on a budget. A private safari gives you an exclusive vehicle and guide entirely to yourselves, offering complete flexibility over game drive timing, pace, routes and personal preferences. Private safaris cost more but deliver a significantly more personalised and immersive bush experience.
